About this issue

The sixteen engraved stamps (fifteen landscapes and a 5 K Franz Joseph portrait) issued on 1 November 1906 were designed by Koloman Moser and engraved by Ferdinand Schirnböck. They were the first engraved stamps from the Vienna State Printing Office; a set devoted to scenery rather than a ruler or coat of arms was still a rarity at the time. The side borders follow local embroidery patterns.

About this issue

The post in Bosnia and Herzegovina was run by the army from the occupation of 1878 – the first offices were field posts attached to divisions. From 1912 the stamps are therefore inscribed 'K.u.K. MILITÄR POST' and resemble the Austrian designs. This Franz Joseph series was overprinted 'K.U.K. FELDPOST' in March 1915, becoming the first stamps of the Austro-Hungarian field post.
