1939 Opening of the Carpatho-Ukrainian Diet in Chust
About this issue
Carpatho-Ukraine's only stamp, showing the wooden Church of the Ascension at Jasiňa, marked the first Diet in Chust, planned for 2 March 1939 – the date it still carries. The Diet met only on 15 March, so the release was held back until that day. That same day the region declared independence and the Hungarian army moved in, taking Chust and its post office on 16 March – so the stamp served for practically one day. 900,000 were printed.
